Palestinian MP Jamal el-Khoudary (Independent) welcomed statements by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he was thinking about visiting Gaza in the near future.

Khoudary, who chairs the popular committee against the Gaza siege, said in a press statement on Tuesday that if the visit takes place, it would be “historic”, and would have an impact on Palestinian history and on the Palestinians, and would be a “strong blow” to the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip for the past five years.

“Prime Minister Erdogan would be received in Gaza in an unprecedented way, particularly for his positions supporting the Palestinians...and his work in breaking the Gaza siege,” Khoudary went on to say.

He considered the visit a practical response to the UN report into Israel’s 2010 flotilla attack, which he said was clearly biased to Israel, as it deemed the Israeli siege on Gaza as legal.

El-Khoudary also lauded Erdogan for statements where he associated the fate of Ankara with the fate of Gaza, and the fate of Jerusalem with the fate of Istanbul, saying it confirmed real desire to end the Palestinians’ suffering.
