The family of Sheikh Jamal Abu al-Hija from the Jenin Camp expressed their support for Sheikh Jamal and his two sons Abdul Salam and Hamza after announcing they were joining the mass hunger strike that was launched in the Prisoners' Day (17 April) demanding their rights and particularly an end to the solitary confinement against all prisoners.
Asma Abu Hija, Sheikh Jamal's wife, told the PIC's reporter: "she and the family members have decided to fast every day as long as the prisoners strike, in solidarity with her striking husband and children.
She said that Sheikh Jamal sent a letter from his solitary confinement in "Gilboa" in which he appealed to all Palestinian forces and factions to unite and direct all energies to the support of the captives' movement.
Sheikh Jamel also expressed in his letter his certainty of the support of the Arab and Islamic nation as well as the free world to the prisoners in their battle, stressing that such support will force the occupation to meet all the demands.
Abu al-Hija's wife said that Shin Bet decided to isolate her husband since his last arrest in the 26/08/2002, in " Gilboa " and to prevent him from meeting his imprisoned sons as well as from family visits.
She noted that Sheikh Jamel had previously entered a hunger strike with the Secretary General of the PFLP, Ahmed Saadat that lasted twenty-two days to demand the end of their solitary confinement. Yet, the occupation authorities refused to fulfill their demands which pushed Sheikh Jamel to restart the hunger strike.
Finally, she called on all the Palestinian people, at home and abroad, to stand with the striking prisoners.
