Palestinian detainee Hana’a Shalabi entered on Sunday her 32nd day of hunger strike amidst fears for her life after her health greatly deteriorated.
Shalabi’s family appealed to the UN, the Red Cross, the international quartet committee, world parliaments, and human rights groups to intervene for her sake especially after she stopped consuming salt and was only drinking water.
The family said that with the start of her second month in hunger strike Shalabi lost 13 kilograms of her weight and is suffering irregular heartbeats, low sugar in the blood, and increase in sodium, which negatively affected her kidney and she could not sleep because of the acute pain.
Her father asked when the world would move to save his daughter saying, “To what extent her health must worsen in order for the world to intervene for her sake”.
Shalabi, who was freed in the prisoners’ exchange deal between Hamas and Israel, was arrested in violation of the articles of that deal and was sentenced to administrative detention, without trial or charge.
