Mahmoud Al-Shawwa, the head of the union of petrol and gas companies in Gaza, has warned of a humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip in the event no petrol was allowed into it within one week.
He said in a press release on Sunday that all petrol derivatives were in shortage in Gaza, adding that the shortage has negatively affected all aspects of life in the coastal enclave.
The health, educational, industrial, agricultural, and other sectors were affected by the fuel shortage, Shawwa said, adding that many buses and vehicles carrying students to their schools and universities had stopped.
Pumping water to houses has come to a halt and the power plant was shut down while most small generators were out of fuel including those supplying hospitals with power, he underlined.
Shawwa asked the “Egyptian brothers” to expedite a solution to the crisis and appealed to the world, especially Arab and regional countries, to assume their responsibility toward the besieged Strip.
