Human rights watch demanded Israel on Saturday to end the administrative detention of prisoner Khader Adnan who has been on hunger strike for more than 55 days.
"Israel should immediately end its unlawful administrative detention of Adnan and charge or release him,” Sarah Whitson, middle east director at human rights watch said.
"He may be approaching death from his hunger strike, and yet Israel is chaining him to his hospital bed without bothering to even charge him with any wrongdoing," she added.
For its part, UN special coordinator for the middle east peace process Robert Serry called on "the government of Israel to do everything in its power to preserve the health of the prisoner and resolve this case while abiding by all legal obligations under international law."
Khader Adnan, a senior Islamic Jihad official, has been refusing food since December 18 and no Palestinian prisoner before him went on hunger longer than he did.
