The Palestinian center for the defense of prisoners has said that the death of liberated prisoner Zakaria Issa proves the criminal behavior of Israel against Palestinian prisoners.

It said in a statement on Monday night that the “martyrdom of Issa” was the result of the policy of medical neglect.

It added that Israel was blocking proper medical treatment for Palestinian prisoners and denying them the right to see a doctor from outside the prison.

The center appealed to all international institutions to pressure Israel into allowing medical treatment for sick detainees, and urged the media to shed light on Israel’s practices against those prisoners.

Issa, from Khader village in Bethlehem, was pronounced dead earlier on Monday after a long suffering with cancer that spread in his brain, liver, and back.

The center pointed out that Israel had refused to allow the travel of Issa to Jordan for treatment. He entered prison over ten years ago with no sickness and contracted cancer while in captivity.
