Head of the popular committee against Gaza siege MP Jamal Al-Khudari has called on Israel to lift its siege on the Gaza Strip imposed over the past six years.
Khudari urged the world community in a press release on Tuesday to live up to its promises to lift the siege on Gaza and start reconstruction works.
He said that Israel has to end the Gaza siege effective immediately after no justifications were left for it to continue in the siege, referring to the release of the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
The lawmaker said that Israel has to allow entry of all necessary material to the coastal enclave topped by construction material, adding that all crossings should be opened and the safe passage between Gaza and the West Bank should be initiated.
He warned of further deterioration in the economic conditions and worsening of the infrastructure if the siege persisted, describing it as mass punishment against the civilian population.
