Dhameer institute for Palestinian prisoners said that the Israeli occupation arrested more than twenty Palestinian residents of Jerusalem since the opening of the Sha’fat military check point to the north of occupied Jerusalem a week ago.

The institute said, in a statement on Monday, that the pace of arrests have noticeably increased since the opening of the new crossing which separates the Sha'fat refugee camp and neighbourhoods around it from the city of Jerusalem. The organisation said that 21 Palestinians were arrested, 11 of them were children.

The organisation added that the last week witnessed a marked escalation in IOF assaults against children and youth of the Sha’fat refugee camp. A number of those youth were beaten by IOF troops and arrested on the pretext that they participated in demonstrations and threw stones at occupation soldiers.
