Haniyeh: We preparing to meet Erdogan

Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, head of Palestinian government, confirmed that his government is preparing to meet the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, if he decides to actually visit the Gaza Strip.

Haniyeh said in an interview with the Turkish Anatolia news agency on Sunday: "the Gaza Strip is preparing for a historic visit by the Turkish Prime Minister, even if not the visit confirmed."

Haniyeh added: "We are continuing our preparations as if Erdogan will come to Gaza, and we formed a special committee to prepare for such a visit."

Erdogan starts on Monday for a four-day tour including Egypt, Tunisia and Libya; in order to re-activate the cooperation with these countries, where popular revolutions.

He personally expressed his desire to go to Gaza on the sidelines of his visit to Egypt, but a Turkish source pointed out that such a visit has not been decided not to upset the new Egyptian government that allows to cross into the Gaza Strip.

Haniyeh said that "such a visit would be historic, and will allow the Palestinians to show their sympathy with Turkey and highlights the new role of Turkey in the region, especially in Gaza."
