Eng. Ihab Al-Ghusain, spokesman for Ministry of Interior and National Security, has denied what is published by the official Egyptian media on the number of passengers through the Rafah crossing.
Al-Ghusain confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the number of passengers, who are departing from the Gaza Strip, is about 400 passengers per day.
Egyptian Middle East News Agency reported that the total number of passengers, who across the port of Rafah on Wednesday reached 1361.
It also said that 743 passengers arrived Egypt from the Gaza Strip, and 618 passengers left to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing.
Al-Ghusain explained that the number of departing people from the Gaza Strip according to the Palestinian official statistics on Wednesday reached 420 passengers only, and not as stated in the Egyptian media.
He affirmed that there are still constrictions due to low numbers, saying "we need to travel from 1,000 to 1,200 a day, especially in the summer season under pressure."
Al-Ghusaindescribed what reported through the Egyptian media as "media statistics," adding, "We have official statistics which are presented to all citizens."
He also showed that the congestion in the registration offices for travel is still ongoing, and there are about 15 thousand registered for travel.
