Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Filippo Grandi has held Israel responsible for the current situation in the Gaza Strip resulting from the continuation of blockade which imposed on it for years.

Grandi said in a press statement on Thursday: "the current situation for the Palestinians in general can not continue because it means the negatives and increase the sense of frustration is ultimately reflected in the settlement process."

He called for doing more to resolve the problems caused by more than four years of blockade, pointing out that the primary responsibility lies with the occupying power which is "Israel", urging them to lift the siege on Gaza and allow freedom of movement to and from Gaza Strip.

He also praised the opening of the Rafah crossing, considering this decision as an important step towards ending the suffering of Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Grandi stressed that peace is the solution to break the isolation imposed on the Gaza Strip and the spread of poverty and frustration, pointing out that the issue of refugees is still going like the wound has not healed after 62 years.
