Hamas and Fatah have met in Gaza to discuss several issues in the interest of the Palestinian reconciliation accords recently signed in Cairo.

The meeting included Ismail al-Ashqar and Jamal Abu Hashim from Hamas and Nabil Shaath, Diab al-Lawh, and Mohammed al-Nihal from Fatah, our correspondent says.

The PIC correspondent adds that the discussions focused on ways to enhance the reconciliation deal, noting that Hamas strongly urged for the need to free the political prisoners held by security agencies in the West Banks, where Fatah governs. It also called for the freedom of organizational work in the West Bank and addressed the passports issue.

The discussions also touched on the possibility of allowing the Palestinian Bureau of Statistics to operate in the Gaza Strip and the nomination of those who would draft the new Palestinian constitution following the truce.

Fatah's Shaath said the meeting was “successful”, adding that it focused on many daily issues related to the livelihoods of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
