The Palestinian government in Gaza expressed concern over developments in the continued detention of elements from the Islamic Jihad movement by West Bank security agencies.

It emphasized in a press statement released Monday that the arrests conflict with the ”spirit and provisions” of the Hamas-Fatah unity deal recently signed in Cairo.

”The same former ways should not continue at the time of full reconciliation,” the statement says.

Meanwhile, Emad Nofal, who represents the Change and Reform bloc on the Palestinian Legislative Council, has said that it is the Palestinians who will call to account those who try to thwart the historic unity deal and not Hamas.

He said so after rumors spread during a Hamas march in Qalqilya that Hamas would call to account those who try and torpedo the deal.

MP Nofal said that the unity deal is the most important thing the Palestinians have to achieve their hopes and aspirations in ending the 63-year Israeli occupation.
