The ministry of prisoners' affairs in Gaza said the Palestinian prisoners in some Israeli jails went on hunger strike for the second consecutive day on Saturday.

The prisoners in Eshel, Ramon, Ashkelon, and Nafha jails intend to go on a two-day hunger strike every week in protest at the policy of solitary confinement pursued against them.

Information director of the ministry Riyadh Al-Ashqar said the prisoners demand mainly an end to the suffering of all prisoners who have been locked up in solitary cells for years, and then an improvement of their incarceration conditions.

Ashqar added that the administrations of these prisons escalated repressive measures against the detainees who participated in the hunger strike in an attempt to dissuade them from their protest step.

The official appealed to all Palestinians to turn the events they organize for the celebration of the national reconciliation into marches in support of the prisoners in Israeli jails.
