Speaker of the Palestinian legislative council (PLC) Dr. Aziz Dweik has described the reconciliation agreement between Hamas and Fatah, which was signed by all factions, as a “historic” event.
He told the PIC on Wednesday that the event fulfilled the Palestinian dream of ending the state of division.
He said that the rift was widening and the Israeli occupation was feeding that division which matched its interests.
Dweik stressed that the agreement would have positive results, adding, “We have waited for this day for a long time, and we present it as a gift to our prisoners and to our people in the diaspora and tell them that the agreement has expedited the date of their return home.”
The speaker said that the PLC would not be deterred by the Israeli occupation’s practices against its members and would work according to its jurisdictions in this year up to the next elections and then would hand over its authority to the new council.
He said that the PLC would grant confidence to the new unity government and would discuss its program then would exercise its powers in monitoring its work and would never be an obstacle before its work.
