The Ministry of Interior confirms that members of the Palestinian police force in Gaza found the body of kidnapped solidarity activist Vittorio Arrigoni. Upon receiving information on his whereabouts, security personnel rushed to the scene to find that Arrigoni had been killed in a brutal manner, according to the forensic report.
First: The Palestinian government condemns this heinous crime that does not reflect our values, religion, customs or traditions, and it will prosecute the perpetrators to the full extent of the law.
Second: We emphasize that this crime does not reflect the true state of security and order in the Gaza Strip, nor does it imply the deterioration of the security situation. The Government will continue maintaining the same level of security and safety that it has in previous years, in which this incident is the first of its kind.
Thirdly : The initial findings indicate that the murder was intentional, as the victim was killed shortly after his kidnapping
Fourth : The motives behind this crime demonstrates that there are elements still plotting against the Palestinian people in Gaza, and aim at undermining its security and steadfastness, and creating a sense of terror among world movements in solidarity with Gaza Strip. This comes at a time that the Zionist enemy is looking for ways to prevent the second freedom flotilla from sailing to Gaza, after the International Solidarity Movement succeeded in easing the embargo imposed on Gaza strip five years ago.
Fifth: The Ministry asks all media sources to pay attention not to spread rumors or inaccurate news regarding this crime, and to rely on official information given by the Ministry.
