Al-Ghusain: Elections announced by PLO devoid of legitimacy and represents people who give up Palestinian constants

Eng. Ihab Al-Ghusain, spokesman for Ministry of Interior and National Security, confirmed that the Palestinian government and Hamas movement reject the call of Fatah government in the West Bank to hold presidential and legislative elections in September 2011.

 

Al-Ghusain said in exclusive statement to Interior Ministry's website: "We consider the elections which announced by PLO devoid of legitimacy and represent only people who have given up the Palestinian constants," noting that Mahmoud Abbas ended his period of rule in accordance with Palestinian law, as well as Fayyad government did not come through legal ways.


Also, Al-Ghusain explained that the Palestinian government refuses to hold elections in the absence of a national consensus and continued repressive actions that committed in the occupied West Bank by Fatah security agencies against citizens and fighters.

 

He emphasized that the announcement of elections is an attempt to cover the historic concessions by Authority of Fatah on Palestinian constants, especially after the fall of Mubarak regime, which threatened Hamas movement and the legitimate Palestinian government in Gaza.


Al-Ghusain stressed that there are many steps leading up to elections such as, the consensus on the national agenda that ensure the Palestinian interest, away from any agendas do not serve the homeland and citizens. "We want reconciliation with those who are looking for people's interest and believes that there is an Israeli occupation must end and we reject reconciliation with those who conspire gainst the Palestinian people. "

 

He continued: "The Palestinian government was a candidate in an election in 2006 and won a democratic manner has seen witnessed by the world, but Fatah Authority has carried out a revolution against the results of elections with international and American support," noting that the revolution in the Gaza Strip in 2007 was made to serve the Palestinian people and protect the resistance until we liberate our occupied territories.
