Dr. Ghazi Hamad, head of Palestinian border and crossings, confirmed that the Rafah crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip will not be opened on Sunday (30/1), for travelers in both directions.
Hamad said in a written statement: "The Authority of Crossings communicated with Egyptian officials, that told them that Rafah crossing would not be opened on Sunday," expecting to be extended for several more days.
He called the Egyptian authorities for keeping the Rafah crossing opened, because it is very harmful to passengers, particularly patients."
Hamad pointed out that the passenger traffic on Wednesday and Thursday were normal, as the number of passengers leaving the Gaza Strip about five hundred passengers, while the number of arrivals about two hundred passengers.
Whereas, Egypt opened the Rafah crossing for specific categories of Palestinians in the first of June 2010, after it was closed completely for three years; after the attack on the "Freedom Flotilla" in the Mediterranean Sea.
