Capt. Majed Qanoua'a, a director in the marine police, confirmed that the members of marine police discovered several archeological pillars and antique pottery dating back to the Roman era along Gaza port a month ago.
Capt. Qanoua'a said in a statement to Interior Ministry's website on Monday (24 / 1): "We made great efforts to extract those archeological pillars because of primitive possibilities," indicating that eight members of Marine Police participated in that task.
Capt. Qanoua'a, who chaired the marine group that discovered the archeological pillars in the end of last year, showed that these archeological pillars, according to the expectations of Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the Palestinian government were related to the Roman era before 335 AD.
He revealed that Marine Police in coordination with leadership of Palestinian police have developed a plan to discover the wealth of Gaza Strip's Sea and its coast stretching from Rafah to Beit Hanoun.
Capt. Qanoua'a asked the concerned authorities in the Interior Ministry to provide the necessary possibilities that will help them to dive in the bottom of Gaza sea; to raise the precious discoveries.
Despite the Israeli siege which has been imposed on Gaza Strip for more than five years and few possibilities of the marine police members, but their insistence lead them to create more, so that they serve the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
