Head of petrol stations companies Mahmoud Al-Shawa confirmed that there is a crisis in the cooking gas in the Gaza Strip, because the Israeli authorities have reduced the quantities of gas, so, all petrol stations stopped working.
Al-Shawa said in a statement: "All petrol stations in the Gaza Strip stopped working, following the stock has run out, and the lack of quantities which entered by the Israeli authorities."
He explained that the Israeli occupation enters between 120-160 tons per day of gas through the Kerem Shalom crossing, while the Gaza Strip's people need to 250 tons per day to cover their needs.
Al-Shawa showed that these quantities are not sufficient, only 45% of the needs of citizens in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Shawa expressed fears of a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip due to the lack of quantities of gas, warning of its risks, and he demanded all to intervene urgently to avoid and resolve this crisis.
Concerning the efforts to resolve this crisis, Al-Shawa said:" We have extensive contacts and sent several letters to the government in Ramallah; in order to put pressure on Israel through international institutions, the Quartet and the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon to import gas to the Gaza Strip " .
"We have communicated with all concerned parties and authorities to pressure on Israel to open all crossings and allow all requirements to enter Gaza, and we asked the government in Ramallah to set up a store for gas to use it in the emergency period." Al-Shawa added.
Al-Shawa confirmed that the Israeli entity is putting obstacles in front of these demands, and it does not respond to any pressure or claims.
He also stressed that the contacts will continue with all parties in order to solve the problem of gas shortage, and to pressure on "Israel"; in order to re-import it to the Gaza Strip.
