Palestinian Ministry of Economy has condemned the agreement which leaked through the mass media between Fatah Authority in Ramallah and the Israeli occupation to close Karni crossing in the east of Gaza and replace it with Kerem Shalom southern the Gaza Strip.
Hatem Aweidah, official of commercial crossings, warned of the danger of canceling Karni crossing, considering that a new crime committed against the Gaza Strip.
Aweidah showed that the besieged Gaza Strip need to open new crossings and ports overlooking the outside world, pointing out that such decision represents a new suffering for the people of Gaza Strip and to devote their bad economic situation.
And he interpreted the cause of Economy Ministry's fear to replace Karni crossing, saying: "There are reasons to beware of that resolution, including full Israeli control on Kerem Shalom crossing, and it is not ready to contain large number of commercial shipments which entering and leaving the Gaza Strip. "
Aweidahrevealed for contacts made by Ministry of Economy with international and human rights organizations to consider the file of commercial Gaza crossings, and to pressure on Israel to open more outlets and increase the hours of working.
Whereas, Authority of Fatah in the occupied West Bank and Israelis signed an agreement to close Karni commercial crossing completely in the east of Gaza City, and replace it with Kerem Shalom crossing southeast of the Gaza Strip and a single commercial crossing in the Gaza Strip.
