Director of Information Office for Palestinian police Maj. Ayman Al-Batneeji described the police work in 2010 as good, as indicated by statistics which showed that the crime rate in general in the Gaza Strip was decreased.
Al-Batneeji said during a meeting to Felesteen Newspaper: " The official figures for 2009 regarding the level of crime was 19.536 of the total crimes in the community, while in 2010, the crime rate was decreased to 14.520 crime. "
He pointed out that there is an increase in the number of crimes in the north and central of Gaza Strip, and it decreased in Rafah, Gaza ans Khan Younis, showing that crime exists in any society.
Regarding noticeable achievements, spokesman for police added: "The overall objectives which were set by the leadership of police to be achieved during 2010 have been completed, whereas, many police stations were rebuilt during the recent war, and some of which will be opened on the second anniversary of Gaza war."
He pointed out that they use computer to monitor crimes in all governorates and centers, in addition to the campaign of "citizen's dignity and policeman's prestige" which activated the relationship between the citizens and policemen.
He stated that the leadership of police prepared a plan to arrange tourism, ethical and public morality in the Palestinian society, noting that they will activate the process of receiving complaints from citizens through communicating with free number to activate any complaint by citizens.
Concerning obstacles faced by the Palestinian police in the Gaza Strip, Al-Batneeji explained that the lack of material resources was one of the biggest difficulties, which emerged largely in restoring and rebuilding the security headquarters and providing the necessary equipment for police.
Moreover, Al-Batneeji said that Ministry of Interior has activated the General Administration for Training, to train all its cadres and policemen how to deal with citizens.
Al-Batneeji explained that the Police Academy will bring educated cadres specialized in police science, whereas, Arab countries prevent the Palestinian policemen from training in their police universities and colleges.
He showed that the police in the Gaza Strip have a general trend to increase the number of policemen in Gaza from nine thousands of policemento ten thousand.
