The Committee for prisoners affairs in the West Bank staged a sit-in with several families of prisoners in front of the Israeli Ramon jail during the Islamic holiday season.

Demonstrators are demanding pressure to be exerted on Israeli authorities to relocate prisoners from the northern West Bank to prisons in the their region, such as Hadarim and Jalbou.

They protested that holding detainees from the north in southern facilities has caused strain on their family members.

The committee pledged in a press statement that greater efforts would be made to join forces with prisoners to keep their cause alive.

The prisoners committee demanded that the Ramon exile prison be shut down and prisoners be transferred to prisons closer to their places of residence.

Prisoner families, the elderly in particular, have been living under extremely difficult conditions from the long distances they travel when visiting their loved ones.
