Lifeline 5 aid convoy to the Gaza Strip is set to sail for Egyptian port of Al-Arish on Saturday evening en route to Gaza, its media spokesman Zaher Al-Beirawi said on Thursday.
He said that the delay from the previously announced date of sail on Friday morning was due to contacts to find two ships to carry the passengers and the aid. He did not rule out chartering a plane to help in ferrying the accompanying activists and maybe the relief material.
Beirawi said that the Egyptian authorities only mentioned the name of former British MP George Galloway as the one banned from entering Egypt, adding, "We have not received any official word on any new banned names".
He renewed call on Cairo to allow Galloway to accompany the convoy, warning that the step would raise tension in relations between the Egyptian authorities and human rights groups.
Earlier reports indicated that Cairo had reservations over the entry of other names.
